Rab arrests 7 members of carjacking gang
Rapid Action Battalion arrested seven members of a carjacking gang from Mymensingh and Gazipur early yesterday.
The arrestees are, Md Aslam (26), Md Selim Mia (40), Amena Begum (28), Md Humayun Kabir (32), Abdul Latif (30), Md Julhus (38), and Md Rubel (22), hailing from Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh and Sreepur in Gazipur district.
A Rab-14 team led by Md Hafizul Islam, senior assistant police superintendent (ASP) arrested them by raiding Muktagacaha, and Mawna Chourasta area in Gazipur.
The Rab team also recovered a stolen CNG-run auto-rickshaw and some SIM cards from their possession.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees said they have been involved with carjacking for long. They snatch CNG-run autorickshaws and private cars in guise of passengers, said the ASP.
Later, they demanded money from the car owners to return their vehicles. Sometimes, they also sold the cars after changing the number plates and forging documents, added the official. After interrogation, they were handed over to police this morning.
In another drive led by commander of Bhairab Rab Camp in Kishoreganj, Additional Police Superintendent Rafiuddin Mohammad Zubayer, eight drug peddlers were arrested from Bhairab Power House Colony on Monday night.
The Rab team also recovered 505 litres of locally-brewed alcohol from their possession. After interrogation, they were handed over to Bhairab Police Station.
