Police to go tougher from today in Dhaka
With an aim to ensure social distancing in the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will go tougher from today (April 18).
The decision was taken during a meeting held between DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at his residence.
The one and a half hour long meeting started around 10:00pm, where the DMP high officials were also present, according to a home ministry statement signed by its Public Relation Officer Sharif Mahmudh Opu.
At the meeting, a decision was also taken to form relief committees for 139 wards (64 in Dhaka North and 75 in Dhaka South) led by Awami League, as per directives of the prime minister.
Decision has been taken to include a police official in each committee, so that relief can be distributed following proper coordination, reads the statement issued around 12:35am.
