NSU waives 20% tuition fee in the wake of student protests
North South University has announced that they would waive 20 percent of tuition fees for the upcoming Fall-2020 semester, in the wake of students' demo.
A group of NSU students today held a sit-in on campus, demanding 30 percent waiver of fees in the upcoming Fall-2020 semester due to the coronavirus pandemic, for third consecutive days.
They also demanded cancellation of all student activities fees -- like computer lab fee, library fees and others -- as authorities are holding classes online and they have no scope to use the campus facilities.
"University authorities have decided to give 20 percent tuition fee waiver and same percentage of student activities fees waiver," NSU Vice Chancellor Professor Atiqul Islam told The Daily Star.
Protesting students said that a representative of the university made the announcement in the afternoon. But many of the students are still holding protests as they want 30 percent tuition fees waiver and cancellation of all student activities fees.
The students staged the sit-in in front of the university gate for several hours from 1:00pm to press home their demands.
Students said that their demands should be fulfilled before October 22, when the fall semester will commence.
