Need few more days to enforce lockdowns: DSCC mayor
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said that it would take two to three more days to enforce complete lockdown in red zone areas.
"We have sought detailed maps of the red zones from the authorities before we go for complete lockdowns. It will take two to three days to get the maps. But even if we were to get it tomorrow, it would take around 48 to 72 hours to impose the lockdowns," Taposh said while addressing a press conference at his Nagar Bhaban office this noon.
The conference followed his coordination meeting with respective officials on the issue.
The DSCC mayor said they will enforce the lockdowns involving everyone, including local councillors and members of different the law enforcement agencies, to make the efforts successful.
Residents in the red zones will also have to come forward to make the lockdowns successful, accepting their personal sufferingsas it is going to be done for their betterment, he said.
"We will try to bring down the coronavirus infection cases to zero in those particular areasthrough enforcement of the lockdown which may last for 14 days or 21 days from the date of its beginning," he said.
DGHS earlier identified 28 areas of DSCC and 17 areas of DNCC as red zones.
