National Professor Talukder Maniruzzaman passed away at Apollo Hospitals in the capital early yesterday.
The 81-year-old professor of political science department at Dhaka University was taken to the ICU of the hospital on December 9 following an ischemic stroke.
His son Sadid Muneer said he breathed his last around 3am.
Sadid also said his namaz-e-janaza will be held at the central mosque of Dhaka University after Asr prayers today.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Gazipur.
Talukder Maniruzzaman was born in Tarakandi village of Sirajganj on July 1, 1938. His father Abdul Majid Talukder was a schoolteacher.
He wrote several books over an illustrious career as an academic -- including Bangladesh Revolution and its Aftermath, Group Interests and Political Changes: Studies of Pakistan and Bangladesh, and Bangladesher Rajniti Songkot o Bisleshon.
