Muggers snatch Tk 35 lakh from man in Rajshahi; police detain man
Muggers snatched around Tk 35 lakh from a sales representative of a mobile phone company in broad daylight in New Market area of Rajshahi city today.
The incident took place around 11:45am when Md Faisal, sales representative of Vivo Mobile phone company, was going to deposit the money to a nearby bank, our Rajshahi staff correspondent reports quoting Nibaran Chandra Burman, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station.
Faisal, with the money inside a bag, was walking through the middle of a street in New Market area, avoiding footpaths when suddenly two muggers riding a motorbike snatched the bag and fled the scene without any resistance, the OC said quoting Faisal.
Police detained Faisal for interrogation from the spot on suspicion of his involvement in this connection.
Meanwhile, police recovered video footage of the incident from nearby CCTV cameras and found that two persons riding a motorbike took away the bag from Faisal while he was walking towards a nearby bank, according to the OC.
"Faisal gave misleading and contradictory information during primary interrogation," the police official said.
After being mugged, Faisal didn't try to stop the muggers rather he stopped walking and made a phone call to the dealer of the phone company, the OC said according to the footage.
Several teams of law enforcers have been deployed in and around the area to arrest the muggers, Nibaran said.
