Muggers shoot businessman, snatch Tk 8,500
Suspected muggers shot a businessman and snatched away Tk 8,500 and a gold chain from him in the capital's Bangshal area last night.
Injured Shukkur Ali (44), who has an old iron-pipe business at Jatrabari, is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The incident took place while Shukkur Ali was returning home on a rickshaw from his workplace, the victim told The Daily Star today.
Three motorcycle riders stopped the rickshaw in front of the Star Bakery at Bangshal and beat up the rickshaw puller, he said.
At one stage, they snatched Tk 8,500 from his pocket and a gold chain which he wore around his neck, he added.
When the muggers were fleeing the scene, Shukkur Ali tried to catch one of them but another mugger fired on him and all the three went away, he further said.
Bangshal Officer-In-Charge BM Shaheen Fakir said the muggers fired a bullet and hit the left side of the victim's chest.
Quoting doctors, the OC said he is out of danger.
A drive is on to nab the muggers, the OC added.
