M’singh woman strangled to death by husband: police

A woman was strangled to death allegedly by her husband in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh yesterday.

The deceased is Jesmin Begum (42), wife of Shaheen Mia, said police.

The mother of three did not allow her husband to get married for the second time, Additional Superintendent of Police Ali Haider Chowdhury quoted the family as saying. Shaheen also used to torture Jesmin, forcing her to go to her parents' house often, said the ASP.

The couple had an altercation yesterday morning; at one stage, Shaheen strangled Jesmin with a rope, he added.

Police recovered the body -- that bore injury marks on different places -- and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the ASP said.

The victim's young brother Rubel Mia filed a case accusing Shaheen, who has been on the run since the incident, Ali Haider Chowdhury added.
