Mirpur Police DC, 3 others transferred
Ten days into the bomb explosion inside Pallabi Police Station, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Mirpur Division Police, along with three other high officials, were transferred yesterday.
Apart from DC Mostak Ahmed, the three others transferred were working in Pallabi zone and Pallabi Police Station, according to an order signed by DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam.
They are: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Pallabi Zone) Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner (Pallabi Zone) Firoz Kawsar and Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam.
The transfers come amid allegations of mishandling explosive inside the Pallabi station on July 29.
Police claimed they had seized a bomb during the arrest of three criminals from Kalshhi area a day before.
The bomb, fitted inside a "weighing machine", exploded inside the station, injuring four policemen and a support staff member.
The family members of arrestees, however, alleged that they had been picked up days earlier.
Meanwhile, a DMP official maintained that it was a regular transfer.
DC Mostak Ahmed was transferred to DMP's Protection Division, while its outgoing DC ASM Mahtab Uddin was made the DC Mirpur.
ADC Mizanur was transferred to Operations Division at DMP headquarters, while AC Firoz was made AC Welfare and Sports. Pallabi Police Station OC Nazrul was transferred to the Prosecution Division.
Police ruled out the involvement of any militant outfit, however, US-based terrorism analysts SITE Intelligence Group, in a tweet, said IS claimed credit for the blast.
DMP on July 30 formed a three-member committee to gather details regarding the bomb blast, determine the nature of the bomb and find its source and asses the responsibility of the officer concerned and his team.
The committee has been asked to submit its report by three working days.
It could not be known immediately whether the committee had submitted its report to the DMP commissioner yet.
