Man shot dead in capital
A man was shot dead in broad daylight allegedly by his neighbour, following a quarrel in the capital's Dakshinkhan area yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid (38), a construction material seller and neighbour of alleged killer Aminul Islam Hannan alias Japani Hannan.
The incident happened around 11:30am in front of Hannan's Ainusbagh residence.
Police and locals said there had been a long-standing feud between the two. In the morning, an altercation took place between the two, and at one stage of the scuffle, Hannan went inside his house, got his firearm and shot Rashid dead.
"Hannan shot at least twice at the victim," said Azizul Haque, inspector (investigation) of Dakshinkhan Police Station.
Rashid was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police so far arrested six persons including Hannan, his son and brother, after the killing.
They also recovered two firearms from Hannan's residence, said Md Shahidullah, deputy commissioner of Uttara Division Police.
"We suspect the killing took place over previous enmity. We are investigating the incident," the DC told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, angered by the incident, locals torched a car of Hannan, parked near his house.
Two firefighting units from Uttara rushed there and doused the blaze, said Ershad Hossain, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.
The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medial College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Filing of a case was underway.
