Man held with gold bars in Ctg
Police arrested a suspected smuggler in possession of three gold bars weighing around 65 bhori worth Tk 33.3 lakh from a Chattogram Railway Station platform early Wednesday night.
The arrestee is Kanak Chandra Banik (40).
Officer-in-Charge of Chattogram Railway Station Mustafizur Rahman said, "Kanak is a gold smuggler. He was on his way to Feni to smuggle the gold across the border."
"Detecting suspicious behaviour, police challenged and held him from platform number eight of the station," the official said.
"On information, senior officers of the force rushed to the spot and later recovered three melted gold bars from his possession which were concealed in his legs with anklets," added OC Mustafizur.
"During primary investigation, we came to know that the gold was melted at Hazari Lane area," he said.
A case was filed in this connection, said police.
