Language veteran Mirza Mazharul passes away
Language Movement veteran Prof Dr Mirza Mazharul Islam died at a hospital in Dhaka yesterday morning. He was 96.
Mazharul breathed his last around 9am while undergoing treatment at Birdem General Hospital, our Tangail correspondent reports.
He was awarded with the Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his special contributions to the country's Language Movement.
He was a student of the first batch (1985-1986) at Dhaka Medical College. He was the president of the Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SOSB) in the 1982-1983 session.
Born on January 1, 1927, Prof Mirza Mazharul hailed from Agcharan village in Kalihati, Tangail.
His namaz-e-janaza was held after Zohr prayers at the Birdem hospital yesterday, his nephew Mirza Tofazzal Hossain told this correspondent.
He was buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Dhaka later in the day, he said.
