JP picks Nasir Uddin for Dhaka-18 by-polls
The main opposition party in parliament, Jatiya Party, has picked Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sarkar to contest the Dhaka-18 by-polls.
JP Chairman GM Quader yesterday interviewed the party's prospective candidates and made the announcement, said a press release issued by the party.
JP secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, co-chairs Mujibul Haque Chunnu and Salma Islam and presidium member Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan were present at the meeting of the selection board, chaired by GM Quader.
The meeting was held at the JP chairman's Banani office, added the release.
Awami League has already selected Habib Hasan while BNP has picked SM Jahangir for contesting the by-polls in the seat.
The by-elections will be held on November 12. As per schedule, the deadline for nomination submission is October 13. They will be scrutinised on October 15. October 22 has been set as the last date for candidacy withdrawal.
Dhaka-18 seat fell vacant after the demise of former minister and Awami League presidium member Sahara Khatun on July 9 this year.
