Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University: Admission test withheld
The practical exam of admission seekers was postponed at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) yesterday, following an alleged untoward incident by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men.
University sources said some BCL men put pressure on Prof Rashidunnabi, chief coordinator of E-unit, to enroll a boy -- who missed his practical exams -- in the film and media studies department, on Tuesday.
When Prof Rashid denied the proposition, the youths left, and allegedly broke window panes of the department building, said proctor Ujjal Kumar Pradhan.
In an urgent meeting, university authorities suspended practical exams of the department, said the proctor.
Rakibul Islam, BCL secretary of JKKNIU unit denied the claims, saying he went to talk to the professor to see if there is any scope of enrolling the boy.
Meanwhile, students of Human Resource Management padlocked the gate of the university’s administrative building yesterday, demanding cancellation of an inquiry into an allegation against the chairperson of their department.
Students of accounting filed a complaint against HRM department chairperson Prof Rafiqul Amin a month ago, saying he took an accounting course and gave them marks without holding any exam, said the proctor.
A probe was scheduled to start from today but HRM students are against it, he added. Authorities decided to stay the probe, and agitating students later returned to their dormitories and the gate was opened, said sources.
