IUB teacher wins ‘best paper award’ in India
SM Mahfuzur Rahman, valedictorian of 2018 and adjunct faculty member at the Department of English and Modern Languages of Independent University of Bangladesh, has won the ‘Biyotkesh Tripathy Best Paper Award’ at the 3rd International Conference organised by the Postgraduate Department of English, Berhampur University, Odisha, India.
The two-day conference, titled “Environment and Culture in the Anthropocene”, began on December 1. It was jointly sponsored by the World Bank Higher Education Program for Excellence and Equity and The Guild of Indian English Writers, Editors and Critics.
Mahfuzur’s paper, titled “Subversion in Subterfuge: Chaos in the Cuckoo’s Nest”, demonstrates the quantum mechanical basis for subaltern self-organisation through folk arts such as the nakshi kantha (Bengali embroidered quilts).
