HC questions bail for Rozi Chishty
The High Court yesterday questioned a lower court order that granted bail to Rozi Chishty, wife of former chairman of Farmers Bank Audit Committee Mahabubul Haque Chisty in a corruption case.
The HC issued a rule asking the state, Anti-Corruption Commission and Rozi Chishty to explain in 10 days why the January 5 lower court order that granted her bail should not be scrapped.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim came up with the rule following a petition filed by the ACC on February 18, seeking cancellation of the bail order.
The anti-corruption body said in the petition that there is specific allegation against Rozi Chishty of committing corruption and, therefore, she cannot be granted bail in the case.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
On December 15 in 2019, the ACC filed the case with its coordinated district office in Dhaka against Rozi and several others on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 37.38 crore.
