HC directs Green Line Paribahan to pay Tk 20 lakh more to Russel Sarker
The High Court today directed Green Line Paribahan to pay Tk 20 lakh more in compensation in three months to Russel Sarker, who lost his leg after a bus of the company ran him over in 2018.
Green Line Paribahan earlier gave over Tk 13 lakh to Russel and will give Tk 20 lakh more in three months after receiving the HC verdict, Green Line Paribahan's lawyer Shah Monjurul Hoque told The Daily Star.
He also said Green Line will not move any appeal before Appellate Division of the Supreme Court challenging the HC verdict as the court delivered the directive based on agreement from the bus company.
Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar told The Daily Star the HC has also asked Green Line to submit a report to the court through the SC registrar general's office in 15 days after complying with the directive.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the judgement after hearing a writ petition seeking its directive on Green Line to give adequate compensation to Russel.
On April 4, 2018, Russel (26), a car driver, lost his leg from below the knee after he was knocked down by a Green Line bus near Mayor Hanif flyover. An altercation broke out between Russel and the bus driver over rear-ending his car. As Russel chased the bus, the bus driver ran him over.
