Govt mulls four int’l stadiums
The government has a plan to build four international stadiums in the country, State Minister for Ministry of Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel informed the parliament yesterday.
They will be built in Cox's Bazar, Cumilla, Manikganj and Gazipur, he said while answering a lawmaker's query.
A project has been taken to have a feasibility test in this regard, he added.
While replying to query of another MP, he said currently, there is no possibility of arranging any international cricket match at Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Bogura according to the International Cricket Council schedule.
BNP lawmaker Gulam Mohammad Siraj said the stadium got international status in 2003 and the venue hosted a test and five one day international cricket matches in 2006. Since then, no international match was hosted there, he said.
The state minister while replying to another query said the government is going to take a project for providing skills training to 3.30 lakh youths at upazila-level across the country.
'INCORRECT NEWS OVER NID SERVICES'
Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday told parliament that some "aggrieved" journalists publish "incorrect" news over public hassles while availing services regarding the national identity card.
Anisul Huq, in-charge of the Election Commission Secretariat in the House, in reply to a lawmaker's question, said there are some mistakes in the NID cards due to lack of required number of skilled and technical manpower as per demand.
Most of the mistakes are spelling mistakes, he said.
The minister said application for amendment/correction on NID cards needed to be disposed of within 30 working days. But if the application includes proper documents, disposal of applications happen within five/six days.
He made the comments as lawmaker Mozaffar Hossain complained about people's hassles while availing the NID services.
Anisul said the EC gives the chance of amendment to the mistakes in line with laws and regulation but many have not taken the opportunity.
However, the demands made in the application seeking corrections are in many cases "unreasonable and unrealistic".
As a result, submission of proper document, investigation and re-investigation are needed to dispose those of, which cause delay and make the process complicated.
For this reason, some "aggrieved" journalists publish various reports about the services which are not completely true, Anisul said.
