Gold worth Tk 4.23cr seized at Dhaka airport

Customs officials detained a man with 8.5 kilogrammes of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early yesterday.

The detainee, Himel Khan, landed at the airport via an Emirates flight from Dubai at 11pm on Monday, according to officials.

Based on information, customs officials took position at key points of the airport when Himel was about to leave the green channel.

They searched his backpack and found 72 gold bars and some ornaments, said Sazzad Hossain, assistant commissioner of customs.

The value of the seized gold was estimated at around Tk 4.23 crore.

Himel was handed over to airport police.

Filing of a case is underway.
