Former secretary dies from Covid-19
Former secretary M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury, who tested positive with coronavirus, died at Mugda General Hospital in Dhaka today.
The former bureaucrat breathed his last at the hospital around 11:30am, said in a condolence message issued by M Shahidul Islam, deputy commissioner of Tangail.
Bazlul Karim had served as deputy commissioner of Tangail from 2009 to 2012, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting the message.
The 61-year-old was admitted to Mugda General Hospital with Covid-19 infection on May 22 and later shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on May 23, as his condition deteriorated.
Bazlul's wife Nazmoon Naher Lipy, who was infected with coronavirus, is undergoing treatment at the same hospital, the message read.
Born in Rajbari district, Bazlul had served as chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) and the commissioner of Dhaka division.
He was admin cadre official of 1985 batch of Bangladesh Civil Services (BCS), added the message.
