Ex-Rajuk chairman receives bail
A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to Md Humayun Khadem, former chairman of Rajuk in a case filed over forgery in the design of FR Tower in the capital's Banani area.
Judge Syed Kamal Hossain of the Special Court for Dhaka Division passed the order after his lawyer Shahinur Rahman moved a bail petition.
Humayun Khadem appeared before the court on a stretcher, witnesses said.
Four other accused -- Syed Md Hossain Imam Faruque alias SMHI Faruque, a lease holder of FR Tower; Liakat Ali Khan Mukul, chairman of Rupayan Housing Estate Ltd; Md Saidur Rahman, former chief engineer of Rajuk; and Syed Makbul Ahmed, former authorised officer of Rajuk -- also got bail in the case.
The judge set January 31 for hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case.
The FR Tower caught a massive fire on March 28 last year, that left no fewer than 25 people dead and 73 others injured.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against the five over forgery in the design of FR Tower on July 25 that year.
On October 29 last year, Md Abu Bakar Siddique, deputy director of ACC, submitted the charge sheet against the five.
On February 11 this year, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka took cognisance of the charges against the five accused.
