Former inspector general of police (IGP) and an adviser to a caretaker government ASM Shahjahan passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday night, aged 76.
His daughter Dr Ujma Sayeed said ASM Shahjahan was admitted to Apollo Hospitals Dhaka on January 26. He had been suffering from Parkinson disease.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard tomorrow.
Born in 1941 in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, Shahjahan joined the police force as an assistant superintendent of police in 1966. He was appointed as deputy commissioner of DMP in 1976 and later got responsibility of DMP and CID as its commissioner and chief respectively.
Shahjahan served Bangladesh Police as IGP from 1992 to 1996 and was appointed as secretary immediately after his retirement.
