Death in ‘police custody’: SI suspended for helping Bandarbazar outpost in-charge flee
A sub-inspector has been suspended for helping the then in-charge of Sylhet city's Bandarbazar police outpost Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan flee after the death and alleged torture of Rayhan Ahmed while in police custody on October 11.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police, in a statement today, said Sub-inspector Hasan Uddin has been suspended for assisting Akbar to escape and for hiding information.
The decision of suspension came just a day after the Police Headquarters formed a three-member committee to find out whether anyone helped Akbar flee. He went into hiding since the death of Rayhan.
Earlier on October 15, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) warned all immigration points of the country to be on a lookout for Akber.
Rayhan (34) was allegedly tortured to death in Bandarbazar police outpost on October 11. Later, he died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.
