Dancer Evan Shahriar arrested on suspicion of trafficking women

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested dancer Evan Shahriar from the capital's Niketan suspecting him of being part of a female trafficking ring.
Syeda Zannat Ara, special superintendent (organised crime) of CID said they arrested him early Friday from Niketan area. "We are interrogating him and will produce him before a Dhaka court tomorrow."
Last month, arrests of five suspected racketeers – including hotelier Azam Khan -- were made on the basis of a tip-off from Dubai police.
According to reports, depositions made by three of them resulted in Shahriar's arrest. Small-time dance artists, who performed in various events, were primary targets of the racket.
More than one arrested in their confessional statements before magistrates earlier mentioned that he (Evan) was involved in the human trafficking, Zannat Ara said.
Evan Shahriar previously won the National Award for his choreography in the film 'Dhatteriki'.
