‘Custodial death’ in Sylhet: suspended constable arrested, remanded

A suspended constable was arrested today in connection with the death of Rayhan Ahmed after allegedly being tortured in police custody.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) members arrested constable Titu Chandra Das from Sylhet Police Lines, our Sylhet correspondent reports.

Titu was attached to the police lines after being withdrawn from Bandarbazar Police Outpost following Rayhan's death, said Muhammad Khaled-uz-Zaman, special superintendent of PBI in Sylhet.

The PBI then produced him before Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman around 2:30pm, the official said.

PBI Inspector Mohidul Islam, also investigating officer of the case, prayed to the court to take Titu for seven days in remand.

Later the court allowed five days remand for constable Titu.
