Collaborate to flourish Bengali art
Bengali art and culture can flourish further if experts of Bangladesh and India’s West Bengal work together, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid said yesterday.
He made the remark while speaking at a ceremony, held at National Museum in the capital. International Centre for Study of Bengal Art (ICSBA), a research organisation, arranged the event to mark its 25th founding anniversary.
Several researchers, academicians, artists and cultural personalities -- working on Bengali art -- from home and abroad took part in the three-day programme, which will end tomorrow.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session, the state minister said the government has taken several initiatives to showcase the art and cultural heritage of Bengal on the world stage.
“To implement them, we need cooperation of the experts -- researchers, academicians and artists -- from both Bangladesh and West Bengal,” he added.
He also said the government has already taken the initiative to make ICSBA an autonomous institution, as it has a significant contribution in preserving and promoting Bengal’s art history.
“The process is almost complete. We hope to be able to make the announcement soon,” Khalid added.
Appreciating ICSBA’s dedication to preserving art history, National Professor Rafiqul Islam said the institution can contribute more in this area if it is given sufficient support.
He also congratulated the institution for its 25 years of journey and wished its future success.
ICSBA Chairman Prof Enamul Haque and eminent Indian art historian R Nagaswamy, among others, also spoke at the programme.
