Rape Case by DU Student: Chhatra Odhikar Parishad convener relieved of duties
Hasan Al Mamun, convener of the Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad, has been relieved from his responsibility yesterday after a Dhaka University student filed two cases against him on charge of raping her.
The platform also formed a three-member committee to investigate the allegation, asking it to submit report with 48 hours and said it temporarily relieved Mamun for the sake of fair investigation, said a press release signed by Rashed Khan, its joint convener.
The committee members are: Bin Yamin Mollah, president of the organisation's Dhaka University unit, Tarek Rahman and Rafia Sultana, both are joint convenor of its central committee.
The DU student filed two cases against six leaders of the platform including former Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur with Lalbagh and Kotwali police stations on Sunday and Monday respectively. In the first case, the complainant mentioned Mamun as the prime accused, alleging that he raped her in his Lalbagh residence on January 3. She also claimed they had an affair and he promised to marry her.
In the second case, Nazmul Hasan Sohag, joint convener of the parishad, was made the prime accused. According to the case statement, Nazmul took her to Chandpur on February 9, saying he would patch things up between her and Mamun.
As she did not find Mamun there, she requested him to take her back to Dhaka. On their way back, Nazmul raped her in the launch cabin.
In both cases, the complainant alleged that Nur in the name of arbitration "threatened her of character assassination through posts on social media".
The platform on Monday and Tuesday staged demonstration demanding withdrawal of the cases, saying those were filed to harass its leaders.
