Building topples over in Keraniganj
A three-storey building built on a waterbody in South Keraniganj toppled over this morning.
The building in Maddha Charail collapsed around 7:15am, reports our photojournalist Anisur Rahman quoting locals and Fire Service and Civil Defence officials.
Seven to eight people trapped inside the building were rescued immediately by Fire Service officials.
At least seven units of Fire Service and Civil Defence went to the spot for rescue operations.
Meanwhile, following this incident around five other buildings on and around the waterbody, all of which were likely built without any foundation either, are being vacated and closed off.
Utility services connections, such as gas, electricity and water, have been cut off from the buildings.
Executive Magistrate (South Keraniganj) Sanjida Parveen is also on the spot and is monitoring the situation.
