BSF member detained for trespassing
A member of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was detained yesterday near Benapole check post, for trespassing into Bangladesh, said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The detainee was BSF head constable Sree Chaitannya.
He was later handed over to BSF officials through a flag meeting between officials of BGB and BSF, said Mizanur Rahman, in-charge of 49 BGB outpost at Benapole.
He said a five-member team of BSF were chasing an alleged smuggler who trespassed into India last evening. They entered 200m inside Bangladesh territory, caught the trespasser and started beating him. As BGB members rushed to the spot, four BSF men fled but Chaitannya was caught, said Mizanur. The trespasser, meanwhile, managed to flee.
