Alleged graft, irregularities: HC seeks ACC report on steps taken against Ctg Wasa managing director
The High Court today wanted to know whether any step has been taken against Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) Managing Director AKM Fazlullah for his alleged involvement in corruption, irregularities and nepotism at his office.
The court also asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to submit a report to it in a month describing what steps have been taken against Fazlullah over the allegations.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order following a writ petition seeking its directives on the ACC to take appropriate action against MD Fazlullah.
Md Hasan Ali, a subscriber of Chattogram Wasa, filed the writ petition with the HC on September 20 saying he had earlier submitted an application to the ACC's Chattogram division office on September 7 to take action against AKM Fazlullah over his corruption, irregularities and nepotism, but the ACC did not take any action.
Writ petitioner's lawyer Md Ekram Uddin Khan Chowdhury told The Daily Star that Fazlullah has allegedly been committing corruption, nepotism and irregularities by appointing manpower in his office through outsourcing.
Fazlullah allegedly appointed three consultancy firms, all of which his daughter Sumaiyan Binte Fazlullah had earlier worked for, to his office and profited through corruption, irregularities and nepotism, the lawyer said, adding that different newspapers have published reports on this issue.
Lawyer Ekram Uddin said Fazlullah has been the managing director of Chattogram Wasa for last 11 years, and its board recently recommended extending his tenure for three more years.
The writ petitioner in the petition has also prayed to the HC to stay the recommendation for the extension of Fazlullah's job, the lawyer added.
