AL, BNP candidates pledge planned city
With election to Chattogram City Corporation just two weeks away, campaigning is going on in full swing.
Not only are candidates holding rallies, handing out leaflets and going door-to-door, they are also making various pledges to woo voters.
Yesterday, BNP mayor candidate Dr Shahadat Hossain pledged to provide modern civic amenities for the residents of east and west Bakalia area of the city while Awami League's Rezaul Karim Chowdhury sought cooperation from voters to complete the ongoing mega projects.
Shahadat started his electioneering from east Bakalia (ward 18) while Rezaul began his in Agrabad.
The BNP leader said he grew up in the area and wanted to work for the people of Bakalia. Shahadat said he wanted to make the ward free from crime and drugs. He said he will also focus on waterlogging and waste management with proper planning.
"Give me a chance to serve you and make Bakalia a better place for all. Don't be intimidated, go to the polling centres and cast your vote," he said.
Later, BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman and Mir Mohammed Nasir Uddin also joined the campaign and spoke to locals in Rahattarpole area.
Noman said, "I have done many development works in Bakalia during my tenure and I want you [people] to vote for Dr Shahadat to continue that trend."
On the other hand, ruling party candidate Rezaul urged people to vote for their party symbol "boat" to continue the development works.
"Vote for boat and become a part of the development. I want to complete the ongoing mega projects we initiated for a better and planned port city," he said.
Senior AL leaders were accompanied him during the campaign.
