Acquiring Tk 3cr illegally: CAAB’s ex-executive engineer jailed for 10 years
A Dhaka court today sentenced a former executive engineer of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for acquiring Tk 3 crore beyond his known sources of income.
Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of the Special Judge Court-4 of Dhaka handed down the sentence in presence of former engineer Md Asir Uddin, now on bail, at the court.
Md Asir Uddin was fined him Tk 3 lakh, in default of which he will have to suffer nine more months in jail. The judge also ordered authorities concerned to confiscate a building constructed on three kathas of land in Uttara in favour of the state.
After the judgment, the judge cancelled his bail and sent him to jail with the conviction warrant.
Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of eight prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.
On July 14, 2016, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against Asir Uddin with Ramna Police Station for his alleged involvement in acquiring Tk 3 crore illegally.
After an investigation, ACC pressed charges against Asir Uddin on May 14, 2017.
