ACC summons owner of Jahid Automobiles
Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned Shamimuzzaman Kanchan, owner of Jadid Automobiles, that supplied masks, PPE and other medical equipment to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Under a project, DGHS made a Tk 32 crore contract with Jadid Automobiles, an automobile parts supplier. The supplier has already been paid Tk 9 crore.
According to a letter signed by ACC's Director Meer Md Zainul Abedin Shebly, there is allegation against DGHS and hospital officials of making huge amount of money through procuring sub-standard PPE, masks and other medical equipment for doctors.
"For the sake of proper inquiry, it is necessary to record your statement," reads the letter, asking Kanchan to appear before it with necessary documents on September 9.
Besides, ACC issued two separate letters to DGHS and Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).
ACC asked DGHS to provide attested copies of contract paper with Jadid Automobiles and supply order and delivery receipt of equipment. It also asked DGHS to provide the list of equipment supplied by Jadid Automobiles till August 31, 2020. The ACC director also asked DGDA to provide the attested copies of application submitted by Jadid Automobiles for approval.
Sources said DGDA pointed out some discrepancies in the contract to DGHS. Both DGHS and DGDA are asked to submit the paper by September 8.
