9.5kg gold seized at Ctg airport
Officials of Chattogram Custom House recovered 82 gold bars -- weighing 9.5kg -- from the possession of a Dubai-returnee at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram this morning.
Tipped off, a team of custom officials detained the passenger Enamul Haque and searched him, said Rokhsana Khatun, deputy commissioner of Custom House, Chattogram.
Officials recovered the gold bars worth Tk 5.64 crore wrapped around his body with adhesive tape under the shirt, the DC said.
The passenger hailing from Chakaria upazila of Chattogram came from Dubai on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines which landed at 7:30am.
He was handed over to Patenga Police Station for further action, the official said adding that the seized gold bars will be deposited to Bangladesh Bank and a departmental case will be lodged under customs act.
