7 staffers of Lazz Pharma fined for selling date expired medicines
A mobile court during a drive today fined seven staffers of a branch of Lazz Pharma Ltd in Kakrail area of Dhaka Tk 29 lakh for storing and selling date expired medicines.
Acting on tip-off, the mobile court under Rapid Action Battalion-3 launched a drive at the shop this afternoon and found date expired, unapproved and contaminated foreign medicines, said Executive Magistrate Palash Kumar Basu, who led the drive.
Later, five staffers -- Amirul Islam, Al Mamun, Mamunur Rashid, Rhidoy Sarkar and Ratan Sarkar -- were fined Tk 5 lakh each while two others -- Rubel Hossain and Mostakim Nazim -- were fined Tk two lakh each, said the magistrate.
All the staffers will have to serve three months in jail if they fail to pay the fine, Magistrate Palash told The Daily Star.
During the drive, the court also seized medicines worth Tk 40 lakh from the shop.
