7 held with 5 lakh yaba pills at Bay
Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested seven people and seized five lakh yaba pills early yesterday in a drive in the Bay of Bengal, 30 nautical miles from Teknaf.
Tipped-off, a team of the coast guard conducted the drive around 1:30am and recovered the pills from a fishing boat and arrested the seven, said Lt Hayat Ibna Siddique, media officer of coast guard. It is suspected that the drug was being smuggled on the sea route from Myanmar to Bangladesh.
The arrestees are Mohorrom Ali (44), Abdul Shukkur (26), Amanullah (28), Nurul Alam (38), Abdul Monnaf (35), Jahid Hossain (33), and Abdul Pedan (22).
All the arrestees hail from Teknaf. They were handed over to Teknaf Police Station.
On Saturday, coast guard seized 1.40 lakh yaba tablets from a boat in Jhaubon area near Rejukhal estuary in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
