60 shanties gutted in fire at Mohammadpur
Sixty shanties were gutted after a fire broke out yesterday at Jahuri Mahalla slum in the capital's Mohammadpur area.
The fire originated at the slum around 4:15pm. On information, ten fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused it around 5:45pm, said Shahjadi Sultana, duty officer of Fire Service Headquarters Control Room.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, she said. No casualty was reported.
Shanto, employee of a private firm who lives nearby, said the fire originated in the middle of the slum.
He said the slum is known to locals as "Pora Bosti", as there were several fire incidents before.
