5th phase on Feb 28: EC

The fifth phase of the municipality elections will be held on February 28, the Election Commission announced yesterday.

Thirty-one municipalities will go for voting, through EVMs in this phase, EC Senior Secretary Md Alamgir said while announcing the schedule at a press briefing at the EC office.

The last date to submit nomination papers is February 2. Returning officers will scrutinise the papers on February 4, while the last date to withdraw candidacy is on February 11.

So far, Awami League candidates have clinched sweeping victories in the first and second phase of the elections.

In the first phase, held on December 28, AL contenders won in 18 municipalities out of 24.
