4 fraudsters including police constable held in Ashulia
In a drive at Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka on Sunday, Rab-4 detained four including a police constable on charges of robbery and extortion.
During the drive, Rab also recovered a microbus, locally made weapons, drugs, police ID card, police stickers and fake banknotes.
Jamir Uddin, acting commander and additional superintendent of Rab-4 informed the matter yesterday after filing four cases against the culprits.
The arrestees are Mominur Rahman (35), a constable of Ashulia Police Station; Hamid Uddin (32), Wahed (40) and Wajed Sheikh (23).
Rab-4 sources said, on July 25 at around 11pm, the four showed up at a pharmacy in Ashulia, displaying their locally made weapons. They identified themselves at Detective Branch (DB) Police and made the pharmacy owner Nur Uddin pay them Tk 63,000. Nur Uddin said the four also gave him death threats and demanded he pay them another Tk 50,000 the next day.
Following this, Nur Uddin filed a complaint with Rab and a team detained the four after conducting a drive at Nigar Plaza in Jamgora area. They found a white microbus that the culprits used for transportation alongside weapons, one walkie talkie, police ID card, some police stickers, one signal light, 190 yaba pills, 16 ATM cards of different banks, 12 cellphones, seven wallets, fake notes amounting to Tk 37,000 and Tk 28,815 in cash.
Rab official Jamir Uddin told The Daily Star that Rab has filed four cases and the pharmacy owner has also filed one with Ashulia Police Station. The arrestees were handed over to the police.
Rejaul Haque Dipu, officer in-charge of Ashulia Police Station confirmed that Mominur is a constable at the station. The accused were sent to a Dhaka court with remand requests.
