16 establishments fined Tk 2.9 lakh
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) yesterday found Aedes mosquito larvae at 94 houses and establishments during the first day of an operation to destroy the breeding grounds.
During the drive, a DNCC mobile court also fined owners of 16 houses and establishments around Tk 2.90 lakh for having larvae and warned owners of other houses.
The 10-day operation began at all 54 wards under the city corporation simultaneously, said a DNCC press release.
The team visited at least 13,825 houses and establishments during the drive.
Besides, stagnant water and breeding ground of Aedes mosquito were found at 8,713 establishments including houses and under-construction buildings.
The operation is continuing from 9am to 12 noon every day except Friday dividing a ward into ten sectors and a sector into 10 sub-sectors.
The larvae of Aedes mosquito were found in abandoned tyres, buckets, flower tubs, bottles, water-meters, garages, water-tanks, plastic containers, abandoned commodes, coconut shells, broken pots, basement and space between two houses, said an official of DNCC.
