EVM vandalism in CCC polls: BNP backed councillor candidate placed on one-day remand
A Chattogram court today placed BNP-backed councilor candidate Ismail Hossain Bali in the Chattogram City Corporation polls on a one-day remand in connection with a case filed over vandalising two EVM machines at a polling centre during yesterday's election.
Chattogram's Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohiuddin Murad passed the order after police produced Bali before the court with a 10-day remand prayer, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Assistant Superintendent of Police of CMP Shahabuddin Ahmed.
Yesterday, councillor candidate of Pathorghata Ward No-34 Bali was arrested from Pathorghata City Corporation School after a clash broke out between his supporters and those of an AL-backed councillor candidate during the CCC polls. Two EVM machines were vandalised.
On the very night, Md Shahajahan, presiding officer of the polling centre, filed a case with Kotwali Police Station naming 24 people including Bali and some 30/40 unidentified people in connection with the incident.
