Dr Md Ali Akbar, professor of the animal nutrition department of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of the university, according to a gazette notification issued by the education ministry yesterday.

Prof Md Rafiqul Hoque resigned from the post of VC on April 7 following agitation by a faction of pro-Awami League teachers against his alleged irregularities and corruption in job recruitment and "immoral acts".
