Journo in CU assaulted ‘by BCL activists over report’

The Chattogram University correspondent of daily Prothom Alo was injured after being attacked allegedly by activists of the university's BCL unit today, following the publication of a report about a BCL factional clash.
The injured, Mosharrof Shah, is a student of communication and journalism department of CU. He was given treatment at the university's medical centre and then referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for better treatment.
Witnesses said supporters of CU unit BCL President Rejaul Hoque Rubel carried out the attack.
Contacted, Rubel told the Daily Star, "I am outside the campus. I don't know who carried out the attack."
Campus sources said a group of BCL men intercepted Mosharrof at the 2nd Arts Faculty road around noon and started beating him indiscriminately. Mosharrof suffered head injuries in the attack.
Sujoy Chowdhury, Mosharrof's colleague, told The Daily Star, "Mosharrof wrote a story identifying the those who wielded sharp weapons during a recent BCL factional clash. The story was published yesterday. Following the story, the BCL men attacked him."
CU Assistant Proctor Najemul Alam Murad told The Daily Star, "On information, the proctorial staff rushed to the spot and took him to the medical centre."
