'Recommendation on e-commerce money recovery in a month'
The commerce ministry will send its recommendations on how money can be recovered from 10 errant e-commerce companies within the next one month, said AHM Shafiquzzaman, chief of Digital Commerce Cell (DCC).
Shafiquzzaman, also an additional secretary to the commerce ministry, shared the information in a press briefing at the the ministry after the first meeting of the 15-member committee formed by the cabinet division October 12.
"We will hold several meetings this week to recommend how the money can be recovered."
The committee will also recommend how to streamline the e-commerce companies.
The committee was formed with the goal of preparing reports on how to protect the interests of the e-commerce consumers and merchants.
The committee will recommend the government how to bring all the e-commerce companies under one umbrella and how to safeguard the interests of the cheated consumers and merchants.
It will bring all the e-commerce related ministries, divisions, departments, directorates and other organisations under one digital platform.
Alongside bringing the e-commerce companies under registration and licensing, the committee will also work to assess the assets of some errant e-commerce companies and determine the methods of money recovery from these e-commerce companies.
