Finance minister calls for Norwegian investment

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today sought Norwegian investment in power and energy, ship building, ICT, water resources and river dredging sectors in Bangladesh.
He made the call during a virtual meeting with Norwegian Ambassador Espen Riketer Svendsen.
The minister also said his government has been working sincerely to achieve the target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Highlighting the business environment and investment climate of Bangladesh, Kamal also said that no foreign investors so far incurred losses in the country and so it would be a good opportunity for Norwegian investors who can tap into some of the sectors with high potential.
The minister emphasised the importance of foreign loan in development purposes and said Norway can continue its support to Bangladesh in this regard, a statement from the ministry said.
Norway has been supporting Bangladesh in different ways since the South Asian country's independence.
For instance, between 1971 and 2018, Norway gave financial support of $8.18million in foods, $182.91million in goods and $582.43million for projects, according to the statement.
The Norwegian envoy said Bangladesh has progressed a lot over the last 10 years. He mentioned that 10 years ago he visited Bangladesh and a decade later it was a different Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has in some cases outperformed its South Asian peers, the envoy also said while praising Bangladesh's economic development.
He assured continuation of his country's support to Bangladesh in different sectors, the statement said.
