FBCCI calls businesses for shunning exorbitant profit
The leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) asked the businessmen today to keep the prices of basic commodities within the limits of the consumers and refrain from making excessive profits.
"Why do businesses have to go after making so much profit? As a businessman you will make profit, but why so much?," said Md Jashim Uddin, president of the FBCCI.
He made the call at a hurriedly called discussion at the FBCCI office in Dhaka on the prices, supply, demand and stock situation of basic commodities in the markets.
"We will not do such a business for which the businessmen would be blamed," Jashim Uddin said, adding that why and how onion price fell immediately by Tk 15 a kilogram (kg) just after the withdrawal of 5 per cent duty on its import.
If the price can be reduced Tk 15 per kg immediately with the withdrawal of the duty, then it means there is something wrong, he said.
"Businessmen should not do such profit. The profit should be rational."
Apart from the FBCCI leaders, importers, wholesalers of basic commodities, leaders of different kitchen markets in Dhaka attended the meeting.
