The government will send two letters to the US administration within the next two days, outlining Bangladesh's position and action plan to tackle the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on exports to the United States.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at the finance ministry in Dhaka today.

The meeting, chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, was attended by advisers, senior government officials, private sector exporters and manufacturers, and trade experts.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus will write one of the letters to US President Donald J Trump, while Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin will address the other to the United States Trade Representative, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser.

In the letters, the government will outline its plans to reduce the trade gap by increasing imports from the US, with the hope that the US administration will, in turn, reduce tariffs on Bangladeshi goods, according to meeting sources.

Private exporters expressed confidence that they will be able to weather the impact of the new tariffs, as the government is taking proactive measures to address the issue.
