Bangladesh Shipping Corporation’s Q3 profit rises 10%

Increased revenue earnings from higher fares and vessel sales boosted the profit

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) saw its profit rise in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2024–25 as revenue increased due to higher fares and vessel sales.

The company posted a profit of Tk 75.5 crore for the January–March period of this year, up 10 percent year-on-year.

The state-run shipping company reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 4.95 for the January–March 2025 quarter, up from Tk 4.47 in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, according to a disclosure published on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) website.

BSC said its revenue for the first nine months of the current fiscal year increased due to higher fares in the international shipping sector and capital gains from the sale of two vessels, MT Banglar Jyoti and MT Banglar Sourav.

The company's EPS stood at Tk 14.38 for the July 2024–March 2025 period, compared to Tk 11.05 during the same period a year ago.

The company's net operating cash flow per share was Tk 19.58 for the nine months, up from Tk 15.84 in the previous year.

However, BSC's net asset value per share as of March 31 this year decreased due to the repayment of a government concessional loan during the quarter.

As of April 30, 2025, the government held 52.1 percent of BSC's shares, while institutional investors held 21.34 percent and general investors 26.56 percent, according to DSE data.

Established in 1972, BSC plays a key role in Bangladesh's shipping industry, supporting the country's trade through its fleet of vessels.
