7 in 10 mobile internet users worry about online security

Bangladeshis worry about online safety despite embracing AI and mobile connectivity, a Telenor study finds.
A striking seven in ten mobile internet users in the country say they are concerned about the security of their online accounts.
These findings come from Telenor Asia's latest Digital Lives Decoded (Bangladesh) report, which reveals how mobile technology is transforming daily life — from expanding access to learning resources to integrating AI into everyday tasks.
Bangladesh also stands out for heightened concerns about network attacks: three in ten cite this as a top concern, compared to just one in five in Singapore and Thailand, and even fewer in Malaysia.
Even as mobile phones increasingly empower Bangladeshis with better education, workplace tools, and a stronger sense of personal security, concerns over online threats are mounting, according to the report, which was released today.
Enthusiasm for AI in Bangladesh is growing, with six in ten mobile internet users expressing excitement about the possibilities and efficiency AI can bring to their daily lives.
Eight in ten are also positive about AI's impact on education in particular, signalling its potential to make education more accessible and adaptable to different learning needs.
The growing availability and accessibility of free AI tools in Bangladesh is becoming increasingly popular in the workforce.
However, the findings also point to a gender gap in the adoption of these tools, with only 37 percent of women using AI at work, compared to almost 47 percent of male mobile internet users.
