Stocks jump on week's opening day

Dhaka stocks jumped on the first working day of the week in the hope of increasing institutional participation.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), soared 96 points, or 1.42 per cent, to 6,853.

With that, the index rose for the second consecutive day by 122 points.

At the DSE, 294 stocks advanced, 64 declined and 20 remained the same.

RN Spinning Mills topped the gainers' list that surged 10 per cent followed by Fortune Shoes, CVO Petrochemical, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, and Taufika Food and Lovello Ice Cream.

Sonali Paper shed mostly that dropped 6.2 per cent followed by Atlas Bangla, Asia Insurance, Bangladesh Monospool Paper, and Relaience One Mutual Fund.

Beximco stocks traded mostly that worth Tk 99 crore followed by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Fortune Shoes, IFIC Bank, and GSP Finance.

Turnover of the DSE, however, dropped around 3 per cent to Tk 894 crore down from the previous day's Tk 921 crore.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange CSE (CSE) also rose today.

The CASPI, the main index of the CSE, soared 388 points, or 1.97 per cent, to 20,054.

Among traded 262 stocks, 207 increased, 41 fell and14 remained unchanged.
